About Epsilon Eta

The first national chapter of Epsilon Eta was established at UNC in 2006 by Liza Schollo, who strove to bring the environmental community together. The Alpha chapter broadened its interest to sustainability as whole and grew to a class of about 90 members. In the Fall of 2020, the members decided to shut down the chapter due to concerns about diversity and equity.

Two years after the disbandment, five students came together to restart Epsilon Eta at UNC with a refined vision after seeing the numerous benefits and opportunities the organization provided in the past. In early September of 2022, the Alpha chapter was officially re-founded through the university with many new measures in place regarding diversity and inclusion (D&I). These include a Vice President of D&I, a semester D&I survey, collaborating with identity-based groups on campus, and fostering conversations around identity and diversity during rush.

What We Do

Epsilon Eta strives to connect students interested in sustainability by giving them opportunities to connect on a social, academic, and service basis.

Environmental interests at UNC range widely, so a strong priority of Epsilon Eta is to provide opportunities for environmentally-oriented students to connect on a social basis with fun and engaging events.

Environmental majors can be hard to come by, so we also want to foster opportunities for our members to collaborate about their academic and professional pursuits. We have group study groups, speaker series, professional workshops, and more.

Epsilon Eta is proud to have its members show their love for our environment in the form of service. To fulfill our service requirement, we plan events like trash cleanups, helping with campus gardens, and even working thrifting events.
